About Me:

Hello and welcome to the Grappling with Life blog! I wanted to make this blog in order to share my passion for Jiu-Jitsu and hope to find like minded people or introduce people to an amazing martial art. My name is Landon Annis and for over 4 years I have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and I currently rank as a blue belt. The BJJ gym that I train at is called Kroyler Gracie Jiu Jitsu located in Elkhart, Indiana. I found myself starting BJJ when my mother worked Kroyler Gracie who is the owner of the BJJ gym at a bio chem lab (yes... really). I was encouraged by Kroyler to give Jiu-Jitsu a try and come to a beginner class. Not knowing anything at all about the martial art, I was shocked by the complexity and technical aspect of it. It certainly was not like the karate or kung fu movies you and I may have watched where one person could wipe out an entire group of ninjas with flying kicks! regardless, I started at 17 years old and have been consistently going to the gym up until this present day and have loved it.

Some Quick and Essential Info to Know About Jiu-Jitsu:

In case you are a complete beginner in Jiu-Jitsu or have never heard of the martial art before, this section will provide a very concise explanation of the martial art to give better context to future blog posts. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that involves two people grappling on the ground attempting to joint lock or choke the opponent in order to "submit" them; in other words to win at that exchange. The martial art is similar to wrestling where two people will be in various positions on a mat and attempt to assert control with favorable positioning. The major distinction between the two sports however is that Jiu Jitsu is a more technical sport and may require more than 10 years before being able to master all of the standard techniques.
